Dear Wynd backers,
We’re in the final stretch! We’re happy to report that we started production and can’t wait to ship your Halo and Home Purifier units to you soon. We’re so grateful that you stuck by us through all the ups and downs over the past few months – we couldn’t have asked for better backers and we are so excited to finish manufacturing and start shipping.
Since the last update, we’ve been ironing out the final bugs and getting the operational machine up and running with our factory. As usual in our updates, we want to take you on our journey, so for this update we’ll be going over OTA, Manufacturing, and testing progress.
Manufacturing
Manufacturing new chips for the Home Purifier “brain”
From Left to Right: Inspecting parts at the loading dock, Instructing manufacturers on how to assemble the Home Purifier, Assembly line moving smoothly
After we’ve received the components at the loading dock, each is inspected for quality and defects before moving them to the factory floor to begin production.
Home Purifier packaging.
To ensure that all steps and checks are completed, we’ve provided detailed guides and checklists (Standard Operating Procedures) our manufacturers can use to ensure our products are being made with quality and consistency.
Co-founder, Jason, working with the assembly line to improve quality and process
Our team spent last week inspecting the production process and ensuring that quality units are being produced in a timely manner. We also worked closely with the factory managers to go over the process and outcomes, looking to increase production rates and eliminate defects.
Wynd Halo production began a few days after Wynd Home Purifier, but is catching up.
Halo units packaged and ready to go!
Now that we’ve started manufacturing, the goal is to ramp production so we can make a total of 4,500 Wynd Halo’s and 3,000 Wynd Home Purifiers. Our two factories anticipate since this undertaking is the first time they’ve manufactured these products en masse, it’ll take a few weeks to wrap up the entire volume, and so we’ll be releasing units for shipping in batches.
App Progress
Android and iOS apps side by side
The Android an iOS apps are making great progress with the final versions scheduled to be submitted to the app stores starting next week. Backers who receive their devices will then be able to take advantage of Wynd's full IOT capabilities and features.
Thank you
It’s been such a rewarding journey collaborating with the whole community to bring Halo and Home Purifier to life. We are continuously humbled by the faith and passion you’ve all entrusted with us through all the trials and tribulations that go along with running a startup and creating new products. Thank you for your support and encouragement, and we can’t wait for you to see the products in your hands soon.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or feedback. If you email us at [email protected] we will respond within 24 hours.
With love and excitement,
Wynd team

Dear Wynd Backers,
As promised, we’re back with more updates! We’re making good progress towards starting to ship this month, and, while we’ve hit a few bumps along the way, our progress since the last update has gone more or less smoothly.
So, in this update, we’ll be discussing the second round of Design Validation Testing (DVT 2), what’s completed, and what we’re still working on.
Our team in Shenzhen preparing materials and inspecting manufactured units late at night for Halo DVT 2
As you may recall from Update #4, DVT is the step of the manufacturing process where we make sure all the technical and cosmetic specifications of the product are scrutinized to ensure top quality. We’ve been working non-stop for the past two weeks to ensure this critical step was completed. So, without further delay, we’re going to jump right in and explain a bit of what entailed.
Sensor accuracy testing
Halo PCBAs and Halo being tested for sensor accuracy. The image on the left show our proprietary particle sensor compared to a $7,000 TSI Dustrak II.
Testing the Halos for accuracy across temperature ranges. This machine thermal cycles the temperature very precisely.
Halo display screens with sensor readings.
As you know, sensors are vital components to the Halo device, and, thus, we’ve put significant focus into ensuring that the utmost accuracy and quality goes into manufacturing every Halo. We rigorously test units to make sure they provide accurate readings under a variety of conditions. So far, the temperature, humidity, light, PM 1 (particles smaller than 1 micron in diameter), and PM 2.5 meet our standards. As for the VOC and CO2 sensors, we’ve identified that their accuracy becomes somewhat impaired in high humidity conditions, and have developed a correction. For PM 4 and PM 10, we still need to complete some modifications to be perfected, but our engineers have found a solution to ensure accuracy.
Assembly Line
Factory workers assembling DVT 2 units.
Sometimes, not all the instructions or solutions developed get communicated to the assembly line. This can lead to confusion and improperly manufactured devices. For example, during a test run, the PCB supplier did not apply a reflective paint layer to the LED housing. Without the paint, instead of a solid ring, the circle of LEDs appears more like a dotted line. We are finalizing with the factory the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to make Halo and Home Purifier units this month so that each unit is made exactly the same way and inspected for quality at every step.
Timeline
We should be on track to meet our projections from the last update. For reference, we have listed important dates below along with some milestones we’ve already hit.
- Sept. 27 - Complete Home Purifier and Halo WiFi stability fixes. Completed
- Oct. 4 - Complete Over-The-Air update work-streams for all key integrated circuits. Complete final testing of functionality and QA. In Progress (but will not bottleneck timeline)
- Oct. 18 - Publish iOS and Android apps to the respective app stores. On track for completion
- Oct. 18 - Wynd cloud goes live for connected Halo and Home Purifier customers. On track for completion
- Mid-to late Oct. - Mass production begins for Halo and Home Purifier. Shipping starts as soon as units roll off the line and move to logistics center. We will ship units out on a rolling basis as soon as we have product from the factory, beginning with Home Purifier unit orders which may get finished earlier. On track for completion
Thank you again for all your support. Reading your comments and enthusiasm for this campaign has been an incredible experience. With this community’s encouragement and passion, we know all the time we’ve spent making these products is going towards a worthwhile endeavor. We are so proud to have a community like this and look forward to delivering on our promise to bring fantastic new products to the market that will help you lead healthier lives. As always, please let us know if you have any additional questions or feedback at [email protected].
Thank you from everyone at Wynd!

App development
One difference between the FOTL units and the previous beta units is that these can connect to WiFi and the new app we’re building. See below for a quick demo of the actual app and how it interfaces with the Halo and Home Purifier.
